To make available a free professional counselling service that will enhance the lives of people who are affected either directly or indirectly by cancer or other life threatening illness.”

Positive Action on Cancer (PAC) is a free professional one-to-one counselling service for anyone affected by a diagnosis of cancer or another life threatening illness. This includes any family, friends and carers as well as patients. Positive Action on Cancer also offers bereavement counselling.

The counselling staff at PAC are professionally trained, experienced and adhere to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or alternative professional body.

As an organisational member of BACP, PAC is bound by it’s Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and subject to the professional Conduct Procedure for the time being in force.

We offer adult counselling at venues in Frome, Bath, Warminster and Trowbridge, children’s counselling in Frome and Trowbridge, and counselling for young people at three local secondary schools. Positive Action on Cancer was founded in 1994 initially as a telephone helpline for women affected by breast cancer by Jill Miller. In 1998 research indicated the need for a counselling service rather than a telephone helpline.

Positive Action on Cancer provides a safe, confidential environment in which to support people in managing the impact that cancer and life threatening illness has on their lives. Our counsellors are here to listen and to help people find effective ways of dealing with the difficulties they are facing.

Although PAC is committed to providing a free service, our counsellors are fully qualified and paid for the work they do.  PAC currently offer 56 counselling sessions each week and support around 250 people every year.  One counselling session with PAC costs us £50 and we rely entirely on voluntary donations from individuals, local businesses and grant-making trusts. Any contributions whether large or small are of great value to us.
