The Penny Hill Show ran from 9am to 3pm using Catherine Hill as the stage for a constantly growing display of ribbons and coins. A special new coin was minted to mark the occasion, generously sponsored by Compugraphic Design in Badcox. The “PAC Penny” produced in denominations of £50, £25 and £10 included a space for a personal message to be written on by the donor as a dedication to someone they might know whose life has been affected. Lengths of lilac ribbon were also available to be written on with messages and tied to the railings, shops and lamposts that lead up the hill. Fay Goodridge of The Art Works said: “For one day of the Festival Catherine Hill became a strong visual reminder of how many people's lives are touched by cancer and how vital organisations such as PAC are in providing a support mechanism. They are heavily reliant on donations to fund their great work and we hope to raise a substantial amount of money by encouraging the people of Frome and beyond to come along and empty at least their small change or hopefully feel moved to contribute a larger donation to this outstanding local charity. The traders on the Hill are a community minded, committed and creative bunch of individuals and have organised the event so 100% of the proceeds we raise will be given directly to PAC.” It is hoped that Penny Hill will become an annual Festival spectacle. This year £465 was raised by the event. Festival Cream Teas Strawberry cream teas, light lunches and homemade cakes were served in the delightful courtyard garden of Monmouth House during the Frome Festival. In the heart of town, this is a little oasis to sit and relax with gentle musical accompaniment by guitarist Simon Downwes, harpist Martin Solomon, mandolin player Martin Gibbs, clarinettist Julie Britton and friends. Picture: Jenny Aryton's coffee morning with Jill from PAC and supporter Pat. Thank you Jenny Aryton and friends for another great coffee morning at Rudge. The morning, which began at 10.30 and finished around 12 noon, incorporated a Christmas Gift stall. home made cakes and a raffle alongside a variety of biscuits with your hot drink. This was by far the busiest coffee morning I have ever been to; there wasnt a space on the carpet for another pair of feet. At the back of the house, children played safely in the garden and a creche like ambience filled one room where toys spilled out to occupy a younger age group. A coffee morning with a real difference. Thank you Jenny for creating such a successful morning with an atmosphere that certainly makes people want to return next year. Proceeds from the morning will be be divided between Frome based Positive Action on Cancer & Dorothy House at Winsley. Photographs below: the action packed coffee morning.
