POSITIVE ACTION ON CANCER

Mission Statement:

To make available a free professional counselling service that will enhance the lives of people who are affected either directly or indirectly by cancer or other life threatening illness.

Positive Action on Cancer is a free professional one-to-one counselling service for anyone affected by a diagnosis of cancer or another life threatening illness. This includes family, friends and carers as well as patients. Positive Action on Cancer also offers bereavement counselling.

The counselling staff at PAC are professionally trained, experienced and adhere to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or alternative professional body.

As an organisational member of BACP, PAC is bound by it's Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and subject to the professional Conduct Procedure for the time being in force.

Our main service is situated in the centre of Frome, Somerset, we also have services in Bath, Warminster and Trowbridge. Positive Action on Cancer was founded in 1994 initially as a telephone helpline for women affected by breast cancer. In 1998 research indicated the need for a counselling service rather than a telephone helpline.

Positive Action on Cancer provides a safe, confidential environment in which to support people in managing the impact that cancer and life threatening illness has on their lives. Our counsellors are here to listen and to help people find effective ways of dealing with the difficulties they are facing.

Although PAC is committed to providing a free service, our counsellors are fully qualified and paid for the work they do. One counselling session with PAC costs us £45 and we rely entirely on grants and donations to run the service. Any contributions whether large or small are of great value to us.
